Hello Everybody!

We are very excited to see both new and familiar faces on Wednesday for the next NOVA Drupal Meet-Up. We are now meeting at Rhodeside Grill on the first Wednesday of every month from 6:30-9pm. Just come on downstairs and we'll get started. You can order food and drink at the cashbar in the basement.

This is a great opportunity to meet with others in your local area interested in building and strengthening the Drupal Community, keep up with new and exciting Drupal-related news - or just socialize with like-minded people! We'll have guest speakers, a projector screen, and wi-fi available. And as usual we are interested in hearing what the Drupal Community has to say! People of all levels of familiarity with Drupal are welcome!

OWASP DC in Columbia MD March 20th

Since most of the world is recovering from SXSW, it looks like there is no refresh this month.

So, if you are a developer (or other interested party), I highly recommend this month's DC OWASP meeting -- albeit it's in Columbia, so a bit of a haul for a lot of people.

Jeff Williams, one of the founders of OWASP and the head of Aspect Security will be talking about the OWASP Enterprise Security API.

OWASP DC Meeting February 5th in Arlington

Sorry for the last minute notice folks, but one of the local OWASP chapters (OWASP DC)is going to be meeting right around the corner from the King Street Metro (near the Motley Fool offices for those of you who went to Refresh there).

I can't vouch for the quality of the presentation because I don't know that much about this month's, but there's usually some good discussion of current events. OWASP is a much smaller meet-up than Refresh, but it may be of interest to some of the folks who have wanted more discussion about web application security. Hopefully we will be having more metro accessible meetings in DC and/or NoVA (it's long been a sore point for OWASP, and lack of venue has been one of the reasons we don't meet more often).

Bare bones info is 6PM, at the offices of Grant Thorton, 333 John Carlyle Street Suite 500, Alexandria VA.

Hey all - I just moved to Arlington from NY. I'm a web designer and part-owner of a firm up north. My question is if your meetings are open or is there a more ummm like official membership thing going? Let me know, I'd definitely like to get involved and join the discussion. I'm heavy in Flash scripting and work with CSS and standards a lot too.

I thought I'd start off a little discussion on possible topics for the May meeting and perhaps pull a speaker out of the crowd -- last I heard we are still in search of a topic/speaker for May?

Maybe not of interest to all, but how about Video on the web? Streaming vs. Progressive. Host it internally with a custom built player vs. running it off YouTube. Why go through a third party, who has the best player? Video on the web vs. video on the web for mobile devices. Video and accessibility, is it all about having a transcript? And of course, how do I do cool sh!t on my site with video??

I was curious ... how does the group feel about alternating venue locations month-to-month (assume Motley Fool as common and default location). There has been some interests from several potential sponsors to not only fund the group with food/refreshments but also with a venue as well (a hotel conference room for example).

We are all over the place -- VA, MD, DC and it might good to have some meetings in DC -- perhaps ideally right around the MCI center or another place where multiple lines meet. However, is change good or bad? Would we rather go for consistency for our venue? I know The Motley Fool has been kind enough to offer us their space as long as we need it.

Thoughts?
