I'm new to RefreshDC scene and to these Forums but was talking with Martin from nClud earlier this morning and he suggested I post to this here.
For about two years now I've been trying to get my web project off the ground. I tried to go cheap and use overseas (in this case Indian) developers but thousands of dollars and over a year later I learned the hard lesson that they just didn't "get it".
I really want to bring this project to the DC area because I value being able to talk with your development team face to face and it's obvious that DC has an immense amount of talent.
The project is iRockMusic.com, our motto is Your Music. Your World. Your Freedom. iRock Music looks to be a playable search engine and peer to peer discovery system for amateur and hobbyist musicians, artists, poets and their fans world wide. Here's what I do have; screenshots laid out in PSD and JPG format, registered irockmusic.com domain, written features list requirements, very clear vision of what I want from the site as far as look and performance and a $20k budget to get it together. What I don't have is a developer or development team in place that "gets it" and can build this project from scratch (I was thinking using RoR or PHP with MySQL or Postgre SQL driving it) with the budget I currently have in place.
Martin told me that I could reach DC's best and brightest through this forum and I'm looking for any freelancers out there that might be up to the challenge. I understand that with my budget I will need to be very flexible in working with a freelancer but I'm hoping to have the site up and running my South by Southwest in March of 2008.
Right now iRock Music is just one guy with a dream, boring gov't job and $20k in savings. Anyone out here up for the challenge of making one kick ass web app and adding $20k to their pocketbook?
If you're interested in possibly helping out or just want to give me some helpful advice please download this .zip file located here http://216.40.253.202/~irockmus/irockmusic.zip (34MB in size) with all of the versions of screenshots and the features list written out. It should do a better job of illustrating what I hope to accomplish than what I'm doing here.
Seriously, even if you guys want to tell me it sucks or it'll never work I welcome any and all advice/input/feedback from this community. Thanks for reading, Jacob Chaney
