I am a web designer/developer and high school teacher. I am lucky enough to teach website development most of my school day. I also teach an advanced class called Advanced Web Tools that allows us to discuss js, php, CMS's, XML, RSS, and DB. I stress the use and implementation of web standards. I am only one person. Just as we all become immune to our mother and father's words a teacher's students eventually do the same. I am looking for a web professional who is willing to come to Damascus High School (http://montgomeryschoolsmd.org/schools/damascushs/) in Damascus, MD (http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&geocode=&q=Damascus,+MD&ie=UTF8&ll=39.28728,-77.200241&spn=0.178833,0.32135&z=12&iwloc=addr) to speak to my students.
Discussion topics may include: -your profession -a day in your life -portfolio review -specific web topic discussion -a walkthrough/lesson
I am wide open and willing to discuss anything that would interest you. I certainly can't pay anyone for coming in but I will at least buy you lunch. I need help stressing the importance of standards, demonstrating real world practice of this field, and displaying jobs available, or just chatting about anything cool.
