I'm involved in a conference at GW that some people may find interesting. It's called "Face-off to Facebook: From the Nixon-Khrushchev Kitchen Debate to Public Diplomacy in the 21st Century," and will mark the 50th anniversary of the American National Exhibition, a cultural fair the U.S. put on in Moscow as part of a U.S.–Soviet cultural exchange (it's where the "Kitchen Debate" between Nixon and Khrushchev happened).
The morning session of the conference is about the history of the exhibition, but the afternoon will be all about how its lessons and legacy can be applied to using new media as a tool for public diplomacy. One of the speakers will be Clay Shirky, author of Here Comes Everybody, and there will also be presentations on a proposal for a new U.S. government online presence and on a new public diplomacy-themed MMO.
Conference website, for more info and (free) registration, is here: http://www.gwu.edu/~smpa/events/faceoff
Hope some folks find this interesting. I worked on the short documentary that will screen at the start of the conference, so I can promise that part will be good :)
