Apparently at the 3GSM Conf that happened this last week, Opera CEO asked the question of whether or not we should have a .wii top level domain name because sites can be viewed on the Nintendo Wii. This would be just like the .mobi domain name.
It was kind of a rhetorical question. Of course we don't want to have a .wii domain name. (as funny as that might be)
It just goes to what we were talking about last Thursday. We really want to move to making our Web sites accessible to everyone regardless of their device, environment, situation, or browser. It's the "one web."
The version of Opera running on the Wii is actually quite powerful. I've submitted forms, responded to blog posts, etc. without any real trouble. It may not have the latest version of Flash or what have you, but the browser and support for CSS is pretty darn good. Fonts are kind of hit or miss, most being replaced with a stock supported font (which, makes sense).
Overall, I've been pretty happy with it. I'm not going to switch to the Wii as my main Internet device, but it's handy for the times you need to look something up real quick. And it's just damned cool.
