I've used both, but unfortunately, haven't implemented either. They both seem to suffer from the failings of all WYSIWYG editors in that the more editing you do, the messier the resulting code gets. I know TinyMCE allows you to create custom classes that'll show up in a dropdown to apply to text and whatnot, and I'd imagine FCK will do the same thing.
I'm not a huge fan of WYSIWYG editors, I don't like giving users that much control. ;-) Something like Textile is a good middle ground. It allows users to manipulate text enough, but still restricts them enough to maintain the quality of the output. It's what we used on Ficlets and it seems to work out well enough.
@ezclopedia Thanks for the links. And no, it’s not too late.
Based on the limited input that this discussion has gathered. My take away is that most refresher's discourage the use of WYSIWYG on this forum since it's targeted at designers and developers.
With using 37signal's products for a while now, I've grown to really enjoy using the textile editor. I see that there's a textile add-on available for Vanilla and I don't think that it would create any objections if we installed it.
Ultimately, I'd really like to see the use of this forum/refresh community continue to grow through valuable conversation. That's why I’d like to request that we provide more tools to make it easier to contribute.
